Txakolingunea, the museum of Txakoli

The Museum of Txakoli-Txakolingunea is an interpretation center dedicated to txakoli. Through audiovisuals and interactive resources it offers the possibility of knowing the characteristics and the process of making txakoli, a singular, unique wine, so characteristic of our land. You will be able to know the history and the evolution that in recent times have been transforming txakoli and wineries. You will discover the different types of production of txakoli, such as red or rosé or “ojo de gallo”, as well as the most widespread white txakoli in its different versions. At the end of the visit you will be able to taste one or several txakolis, depending on the option of visit that is chosen and there is even the opportunity to pair it with a “pintxo”. All visits are guided, the approximate duration of them is one hour. The visit can be carried out in four languages: Basque, Spanish, English and French.

Mendibile Jauregia, the Regulatory Council Headquarters

The Mendibile Palace, dating from the late seventeenth century, is one of the buildings that are part of the Historical Heritage of Leioa. It is currently the headquarters of the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin “Txakoli de Bizkaia – Bizkaiko Txakolina”, and of the Mendibile Jauregia Association, formed by the Denomination Bizkaiko Txakolina, the Leioa City Council and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia. Here are shown, through a system of panels and videos, the details of the production, history and culture of this great wine, yesterday and today of Txakoli de Bizkaia. There is also the Txoko Mendibile restaurant, with an assorted menu of Bizkaian txakolis.

Come to our Txakoli

On the occasion of the festivities of Saint Joseph, on March 17 and 19, the Txakolingune, the Tourism Office and the City Council of Bakio have organized an interesting guided tour of the Interpretation Center, the town and a winery.

The “Get closer to our txakoli” day aims to publicize the great legacy that the cultivation of the vine and the production of txakoli has left for generations in our town, wants to show us the deep roots between this fresh and aromatic wine and Bakio.

The appointment will be next March 17 and 19, starting at 10:00 in the morning. Places are limited, so registrations must be made in advance, until March 14 at the Tourist Office or phone 94 619 33 95. A great opportunity to deepen our roots and enjoy for 6 euros of this visit, a skewer, two txakolis and the souvenir cup of the day.
