26 May We are creating the new Wine Tasting Committee
In the constant pursuit of the improvement of our product, Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) is immersed in the selection of its new Wine Tasting Committee. This is the first phase of a broader project which will culminate with the change of the scoring procedure of our txakoli.
The work is being carried out by the specialist company, Excel, under the supervision of Antonio Palacios, a professor at the University of La Rioja.
In a first phase nearly fifty professionals related to wine, sommeliers and the wineries themselves of our A.O.C will be given training, in a wine tasting technique designed as a tool for a new scoring procedure which will cater to both the quality as well as the typical characteristics of our Txakoli.
Its purposes is, that from now on, the “verdicts” or opinions of the wine tasting panel will be systematised and will comply with comparable parameters in a manner that they will not depend so much on the specific circumstances at the time of the wine tasting or the tasters, but respond to a specific mechanism which will establish the scores of the tasted txakoli.
Once the training phase is over, a total of 25 tasters who will become part of the new Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakolina of Biscay) Wine Tasting Committee will be selected.
The entire process is being undertaken at our headquarters in Mendibile and Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakolina of Biscay) will be one of the first A.O.C. which will bring into line the new quality standards requirements as regards product certification that will enter into force in the near future, reason why it can be said that we are playing a key role in a pioneering initiative.
