13 Jun Txakolis from Bizkaia stand out at the Decanter 2022 awards
Leioa 09-06-22. In its 19th edition, the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) have presented their list of medals this week. This competition is one of the most important wine competitions in the world, with an unparalleled global reach. Featuring the best wine experts from around the world as judges, the DWWA Awards are internationally trusted for their rigorous judging process. As part of this process, almost 250 expert judges, including 41 Masters of Wine and 13 Master Sommeliers, evaluated 18,244 wines from 54 countries, which represents a record number of wines tasted.
Eleven txakolis from the Bizkaiko Txakolina Denomination of Origin have been honored at the Decanter World Wine Awards held in London at the end of April, and the results have just been published.
The 2019 Berroja txakoli stands out with 95 points and a gold medal. A txakoli produced by the Muxika winery of the same name, in the Berezia style, the new category of txakoli presented by the Denomination of Origin last December. This category includes txakolis fermented in barrels or with a minimum aging on the lees of five months.
The Last Harvest wine or Uztagoiena Arima vintage 2019, produced by the Gorka Izagirre Winery in Larrabetzu, has obtained 94 points and a silver medal.
Silver medal also and 90 points for the Aguirrebeko Lasai vintage 2019 txakolis from the Berroja winery and Gorka Izagirre vintage 2021, as well as for the bereziak Ama vintage 2019, Zura vintage 2019 and G22 vintage 2020 txakolis from the Gorka Izagirre winery.
The txakolis Aguirrebeko vintage 2020 from Bodega Berroja and Aretxaga vintage 2021 from Bodegas Virgen de Lorea obtained a bronze medal. In addition, the txakolis bereziak Señorío de Otxaran Premium vintage 2019 and Lainoa vintage 2020 from the latter winery also received the bronze medal.
TWO SILVER MEDALS AT THE CONCOURS MONDIAL DE BRUXELLES
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles also recently presented the results of its 2022 Red and White Wine Session. From May 19 to 21, another of the most prestigious competitions in the world brought together experts from the entire international wine sector to taste more than 7,300 wines from almost 40 countries around the planet.
On this occasion, the Oletxe txakoli from the Butroi de Gatika winery and the Lainoa txakoli from Bodegas Virgen de Lorea in Zalla were awarded a silver medal.
