BizkaikoTxakolina changes its back label

07 Dec BizkaikoTxakolina changes its back label

Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) is planning an unveiling. Starting from the 2016 vintage, which is soon to be launched onto the market, the bottles produced by the wineries registered under the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée will display new, more modern and straightforward labels, that will allow the consumer to see at a first glance the vintage year, origin and quality certification of the Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) bottle which the former is purchasing.

The back label is the most important document which is added to a bottle, beyond even that of the label that gives its name to the txakoli or the winery, because that small seal is the certificate of quality which is granted by the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée to the txakolis that endorses following numerous elaboration process controls, that range from the origin of the grape to the final bottling.

The back label certifies the guarantee of origin and the quality of Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay). The process for obtaining that guarantee is a lengthy one. The wineries registered under the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée undergo various controls which enable the Regulatory Council to obtain precise knowledge as regards the volume of production of each winery based on a comprehensive analysis of their vineyards or purchases from other wine producers. Once certified by the Council that the varieties of grapes used are those authorised by the AOC Regulation and once the quantity is verified, the Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) produced undergoes a final organoleptic quality control by the Wine Tasting Committee, which certifies that the considered txakoli corresponds to the required characteristics of typicity and quality.

Only after passing these controls, the Regulatory Council supplies the wineries with the exact and numbered amount of back labels which will certify that the bottles that are launched onto the market bearing that seal on the back complies with the levels of quality and authenticity required by the AOC.

The new Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) back label has a modern and straightforward design which allows the consumer to obtain all required information at a single glance. The seal of guarantee of the AOC Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) occupies most of the label’s space, given that the seal itself certifies the origin of the product, which is underlined below with the word Bizkaia (Biscay), next to the oak leaf which is the symbol of the Historical Territory.

Next to the AOC seal includes also in bold highlighted characters, the year of production of the txakoli, a fact that assumes greater importance as the wineries registered under the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée are producing txakolis of sufficient complexity and quality to improve over time.

Finally, underneath the production year information, the control number is shown, a fact which certifies the number of bottles which have been elaborated that year worthy of displaying the back label that guarantees the quality of the product.

The new back label was created for the purpose of summarising in a unique symbol the image of tradition and modernity which the Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) possesses, the only agri-food product in Biscay having its own and original Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée .

Simplicity and clarity have been the cornerstones on which its design has been based. The decorative elements of the previous back label have been scrapped in order to convert the new seal into a medium of communication that in itself conveys a clean, fresh and up to date image.  The new image is consolidated with the use of two well-defined greens, the corporate colour of the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée.

The label which is soon to be unveiled is the third back label in the history of the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée Bizkaiko Txakolina. During the first three years of existence of the AOC, there was a seal which was then replaced by the one which up to now had been in force and used, that of the AOC celebrating 22 years of existence.

The back label, in addition to being a seal of guarantee, is a brand image and this entails the need for periodic updates in step with the times. The Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) has embarked on a dramatic change in this regard, with an innovative and modern design that will project a new image of the Bizkaia Txakoli (Txakoli of Biscay), a product which has undergone an immense evolution over the course of these two decades.

Bizkaiko Txakolina (Txakoli of Biscay) will also introduce a new label on the bottles of the institutional txakoli, which represents the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée in official events and which advertises the Bizkaia txakoli (Txakoli of Biscay) in various initiatives that are undertaken by public institutions.
