Leioa 06-19-19. The Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Bizkaiko Txakolina presented this morning at the NYX Hotel in Bilbao the Txakoli Map web app and the Summer Course that will be given on the June 27th and 28th at the Mendibile headquarters by the UPV-EHU.

Miren Bikandi, member of the Regulatory Council, explained the functionalities of the new APP. “We wanted to do something special, to celebrate our first 25 years and without losing sight of one of our main lines of action, we have implemented and initiative that keeps Bizkaiko Txakolina abreast of new technologies, a digital presence without losing its carácter, their values or their tradition”, she said.

“Thus, with this philosophy came Txakoli Map. A tool, a web app, a website with application functionalities, which provides technological support to an activity as traditional as taking some txakolis and pintxos with friends or family”, explained Bikandi. “This web app allows us to access tasting points of Bizkaiko Txakolina, providing us with information on the premises and the txakolis that we can taste in each establishment as well as information on the wineries”.

The APP, which has started with a majority of hotel establishments based in Bilbao, will grow and incorporate bars and restaurants both in Bizkaia and in those cities where there is an establishment offering txakoli from Biscay to its customers.


Garikoitz Ríos, also a member of the Regulatory Council, presented the Summer Course that will be held on the June 27th and 28th at the Mendibile headquarters.

Rios began by recalling that “to think about the present and anticípate the future, it is essential to take a look at the past and medítate on what we have done well, review our mistakes so as not to repeat them and also subject ourselves to the gaze of nearby but external agents who analyze our trajectory, from the perspective that only gives you the distance and that you usually lose when you are fully involved in any subject, as is our case”.

Rios thanked for his collaboration with this course at the UPV-EHU, the Department of Economic Development and Infrastructure of the Basque Government and HAZI.

The course will be developed under the general title of Retrospective and present of the DO Bizkaiko Txakolina, and among the speakers include Cristina Alcala, journalist specialized in the sector and who has held important positions as director of the magazine Mi Vino, or secretary of the Regulatory Council Ribeiro, who will talk about the general problema of the Denominations of Origin.

Maria Olarte, director of Olarte Desarrollo de Personas, and specialized in coaching, training and conflicto resolution, which will direct the paper on Partnership and Collaboration.

Maria Jose Huertas, sommelier of La Terraza del Casino Restaurant (Madrid), who will talk about txakoli and gastronomy.

And Andreas Kubach (Master of Wine) who gives a tasting at the Berroja winery.

Also participating in the course are representatives of the Bierzo and Marco de Jerez Regulatory Councils that will talk about their experiences, as well as members of Corpinat, an association of sparkling wine cellars in Penedes, which once fell apart DO Cava.
